Mikhael Tara Garver has been a leader in immersive and experiential storytelling for the past 18 years. She architects large-scale, social impact, multi-platform, experiences that combine technology and live events.  She has created work for brands, agencies, non-profits, and individuals that have taken audiences through underground tunnels, disused spaces, rock clubs, marches, shopping centers, and more. 

This May, Mikhael was one of 100 invitees to Entertain Change - a gathering of social impact culture makers hosted by Pop Culture Collaborative.  She was also commissioned to design the experience for the two day event and was recently awarded a grant by the Pop Culture Collaborative for emergency strategy experiential work.  She was also one of six international artists awarded the International Sacatar Fellowship (an installation around neurology and coastal ecology) in Brazil.


Garver has worked for numerous brands: AMC Television, The National Park Service, Bloomberg, Serino/Coyne, BBDO, Hormel, Tentrr, Smirnoff,  among others.  She is a leader immersive content consultant having done work for IDEO, Facebook, and Virgin.

Mikhael Tara Garver leads the advanced program in Making, Directing, and Leadership for Tisch/NYU. She has spoken and taught on Arts and Democracy at North Carolina School of the Arts, Yale, Harvard, DePaul, Montclair State, and other universities.


Mikhael was a director on Sleep No More at American Repertory Theater. She has worked nationally in our many of our major theaters: The Atlantic Theater, American Conservatory Theater, The Kitchen, Bard University, Grand Arts Center, The Public Theater, to name a few. She created The Experiment for the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston and was the former Managing Artistic Director of NY Immersive Leader Woodshed Collective (Kpop, Empire Travel Agency).

Garver created FORNICATED an experience that started with texting and led to  a rock club experience around a different band every night: An immersive concept album. In 2017, she premiered Stand for Revolutionary Love at BAM with Kristin Sudeikis Dance Company.  Mikhael was the Creative Director for GREAT CAESAR on their SXSW immersive tour; Mikhael was leading in Artistic Distribution for The Women’s March on Washington in January, 2017. Garver started her career making early experiential campaigns for Chicago Athletic Clubs - tripling its income and growth strategy over 3 years.  Garver founded and ran Chicago experience leader - Uma Productions from 2001 - 2007.

Garver was named the Artistic Director of a new touring sex education experience for Cycles&Sex; commissioned by PHTS and NYPL to build Alexandria- A VR and live experience in search of the lost stories through Public Libraries; the leadership developing The Solar Project in North Carolina: which combines solar power, immersive production, and community involvement; commissioned by The Goodman Theatre for postnation (a long term piece around immigration through the postal system). She has had immersive commissions by the New Work Initiative, The Open Society Foundation, and The Kennedy Center. Garver created the  Museum of International Drug Policy for the United Nations: an installation which premiered in NYC in 2016 and Montreal in 2017 lauded by The Guardian and the New York Times.
